Press Release
The Irish Prison Service welcomes the decision by Mr. Richard Merne, a local resident, to withdraw the proceedings he had initiated in the High Court in relation to the proposed prison development at Thornton Hall, North County Dublin. Mr. Merne has agreed to pay a substantial contribution towards the State's costs in respect of the High Court case.
Commenting on the outcome of the case Mr Brian Purcell, Director General of the Irish Prison Service said 'the withdrawal of the proceedings will allow the Irish Prison Service to concentrate on completing the on-going programme of site works and landscaping at Thornton Hall and to proceed with the consultation and planning procedures for the development of our new prison facilities'.
