OPERATIONS DIRECTORATE
Role of the Directorate
The Operations Directorate is responsible for directing and co-ordinating the general operation of the 14 prison institutions to ensure safe, secure and humane custody of prisoners consistent with the rule of law and government policy.
This includes, for example:-
(a) Control/management of prisoner numbers
(b) General sentence management
(i) Review meetings
(ii) Case conferences
(iii) Temporary releases
(iv) Transfer of prisoners within the prison system
(v) Production of prisoners at Court
(vi) Transfer of prisoners to hospitals
(vii) Maintaining prisoner records
(viii) Offenders reviewed by the Interim Parole Board
(c) Monitoring long term sentenced offenders on reviewable temporary release
(d) Victim Liaison
(e) Mitigation of fines
(f) Security procedures
(g) Responding to legal challenges
(h) Parliamentary Questions
(i) Representations
(j) Press Queries
(k) Queries from members of the public
(l) Freedom of Information requests
