Recruit Prison Officers

In accordance with Government Decision S180/20/10/0964C of 3 February and 24 March 2009 on the implementation of savings measures on public service numbers, more generally referred to as the moratorium on public sector recruitment, filling of vacancies in the Irish Prison Service is subject to the approval of the Minister for Finance

There are no immediate plans to recruit additional prison officers.

The most recent recruitment campaign, for position of Recruit Prison Officer, closed on Thursday 9th October 2008.

Applications for the position of Recruit Prison Officer are not being accepted however, the advertisement and essential requirements for the campaign are available at the bottom of this page for information purposes only.

 

SECTIONS 15 AND 16 OF THE PRISONS ACT 2007

Membership of Independent Appeals Tribunal (Note this competition has now closed)

The above legislation allows for prisoners in the Irish prison system to appeal against certain sanctions imposed on them by governors where the sanction imposed results in the loss of remission of sentence, arising from disciplinary infractions.

Prisoners are entitled to have their appeal heard by an independent appeals tribunal and are further entitled to be legally represented at the hearing.

Interested solicitors and barristers, currently practicing and with a minimum of 7 years practice experience, are invited to apply for appointment by the Minister for Justice and Law Reform as Members of the Appeal Tribunal.

The Terms and Conditions of the Scheme, eligibility criteria, applicable fees and application forms are available at the link below.

The closing date for receipt of completed application forms was Thursday, 26 August 2010.
