2025 Innovation and Excellence Awards - August 24th, 2026
Introducing the 2025 Innovation and Excellence Awards winners. These awards recognise actions by staff to introduce initiatives for the benefit of the Service and the community we serve.
The awards are designed to reward creativity and ingenuity that has been proven to support the overall management of the Service.
Today at Headquarters an event was hosted by Chairperson of the Staff Recognition Committee, Governor Kevin O’Connell, the awards were presented by Director General Caron McCaffrey to the recipients.
The work the award winners was recognised for today aligns with many of the aims and strategic priorities of the Irish Prison Service.
This years award recipients were;
🏆 The Virtual Prison Tour Team – Developed a novel way of demystifying prison and increasing public understanding.
🏆 Cloverhill Prison, Mountjoy Prison & Shelton Abbey – Substantial contribution to reducing their carbon footprint, increase recycling rates and make their prisons biodiverse.
🏆 The Organisational Dashboard Team – Development of a digital platform that collates much of our data in one place to assist with informed decision making.
🏆 The Dochas Centre – Ran a charity 5k Colour run in aid of local charity, NeuroVibe Tribe and organised a family day, creating the space to enhance the family bond between mother and child.
🏆 The Training Unit – Who carefully restored a racing currach which not only provided a unique project to work on within the prison but the boat also went to community group Crosscare who work with marginalised youths.
🏆 Loughan House – Provision of hot meals to the community following the devastating impact of storm Eowyn and for successfully bringing together those in custody and Sligo Rovers through a combined love of football.
