Death in Custody – Portlaoise Prison 21 August 2016 - August 22nd, 2016
The Irish Prison Service can confirm that a prisoner has died in custody at Portlaoise Prison. The deceased, a 32 year old male, was found unresponsive in his cell on Sunday morning (21 August 2016). Medical attention was provided however, he was subsequently pronounced dead.
His family have been notified. The Inspector of Prisons has also been notified and as with all deaths in custody an investigation will be carried out by him in due course.
The Irish Prison Service would like to extend our sympathies to the family on their loss.
