Director General Caron McCaffrey was delighted on March 9th to welcome Uachtarán na hÉireann, Catherine Connolly alongside CEO of Gaisce – The President’s Award , Avril Ryan and Governor of Loughan House, Mark Lydon to a Gaisce Gold Medal Award Ceremony for two prisoners.

The Irish Prison Service has a long and proud association with Áras an Uachtaráin and look forward to strengthening this bond in the years ahead with the recently elected President. Earning a Gaisce Award in the community is difficult, but earning one within the prison community is a remarkable feat, as evident by President Connolly’s attendance. It is testament to our staff and partnership with Gaisce that even during what could be perceived as a persons darkest period of their life, imprisonment, that we can give them and their families their proudest moments.
