Family Connections Office

The Irish Prison Service Family Connections Officer takes a lead role in ensuring the prison population develop, maintain and enhance their relationship with their families and significant others. The Irish Prison Service is committed to delivering initiatives throughout the prison estate, that will make a difference to people’s lives.

Extensive consultation, on behalf of the Irish Prison Service, has been undertaken with people in custody, their families, and statutory and community agencies. This has informed a number of bespoke initiatives which are being introduced throughout the prison estate throughout 2026 and beyond, including enhanced visitor experiences, support for mothers and infants in custody, The Motherhood Project and parenting programmes.
