Red Cross Support In Irish Prisons During Lockdown - May 18th, 2021



The Irish Prison Service was delighted to participate in the Criminal Justice Network Newsdesk event which occurred on Wednesday 12th May. The event brought together practioners from criminal justice systems, from across the globe, in a series of facilitated online conversations and discussions.

The Irish Prison Service was delighted to take part in this unique event and to showcase how our Red Cross prisoner volunteer programme has been central to our overall Covid-19 response. The event was facilitated by Educational Training Board/Red Cross Teacher Catriona McGrath who led the conversation with Red Cross Governor Frances Daly, Red Cross CHAC Co-ordinator (and retired Governor) Greg Garland; Programme Director, Dr Graham Betts Symonds; and National Infection Control Manager with the Irish Prison Service, Emmet Conroy.

The group discuss how the Red Cross Volunteer programme has brought about a radical transformation in the management of health related and infection control measures in prisons and has been pivotal to the successful management of Covid-19 in Irish prisons.
