The West’s Awake with fundraising!
Despite the restrictions and associated doom and gloom over the last few months, Castlerea Prison staff have worked hard to raise funds in order to spread a little sunshine. With the support of BSD and local builder Gerry Dervan, staff at Castlerea raised over €2,000 recently. A total of €1,000 was donated for two different areas in Crumlin Children’s Hospital (€500 each) due to staff family members availing of the services therein. The remaining balance of €1,115 was donated to St. Michael’s National School, Castlerea to assist with the building of a new sensory room for their students.
One of our colleagues, decided to run 250km over 30 days in order to raise money for the charity ‘Cardiac Risk in the Young’ (CRY). He was well supported by various colleagues over the 30 days who joined him in his daily run. Many staff turned out to line the prison avenue for the finish of the final ‘due-on’ run and as he crossed over the line he received huge applause. CRY were delighted to receive almost €30,000 from this fantastic endeavour from one of our own.
Staff also previously participated in various activities to raise €1,000 for Pieta House Tuam during the Darkness Into Light fundraiser recently, this money will be used by Pieta House to care for people in need of their services in the west of Ireland.
