Incentivised Regimes Policy

The Incentivised Regimes Policy was introduced on a phased basis across all prisons in 2012 and is now operational across the prison estate. The Incentivised Regimes Policy provides for a differentiation of privileges between people in custody according to their behaviour in custody and level of engagement with services. The objective is to provide tangible incentives to reinforce prosocial behaviour and participate in structured activities, supporting a safer and more secure environment and ultimately, safer communities.

There are three levels of regime – basic, standard and enhanced, with different privileges associated with each regime level. All people enter the system at the ‘standard’ regime level and become eligible for the enhanced regime status once they have met the required criteria for the preceding two months
